Whole Foods Market Expands Food Access with Major Donation Initiative Across Three Countries
Whole Foods Market is donating over 270,000 pounds of food through mobile pantry events and its Nourishing Our Neighborhoods program to address food insecurity across the U.S., Canada, and UK.

Whole Foods Market is significantly expanding its efforts to combat food insecurity through a coordinated initiative that will provide more than 270,000 pounds of pantry staples and fresh produce to communities across the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. The grocery retailer's comprehensive approach includes six mobile pantry events and support for 83 Nourishing Our Neighborhoods vans serving 89 nonprofit partners, directly addressing the critical need for food access among vulnerable populations.
The company will host six mobile pantry events on October 21 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., providing free farmers market-style distributions that will serve approximately 4,200 households. Each event is designed to support over 700 families facing food insecurity with both pantry staples and fresh produce. These events are conducted in collaboration with community-based food rescue organizations that specialize in redirecting surplus food to those in need.
Participating organizations in the mobile pantry initiative include 6 Stones Mission in Euless, Texas; Community Access & Supportive Services in Richmond, Virginia; McAuley Ministries in Providence, Rhode Island; Operation Food Search in St. Louis, Missouri; Porchlight Community Services in San Diego, California; and Rise (Community Action Service Center) in Hightstown, New Jersey. Each of these organizations will receive a significant infrastructure boost with the addition of a Nourishing Our Neighborhoods all-electric refrigerated van and E2 charging station in 2026, enhancing their capacity for food distribution.
Simultaneously with the mobile pantry events, 83 "Stuff the Van" events will be held to benefit all current Whole Foods Market Nourishing Our Neighborhoods recipient organizations. During these events, Whole Foods Market team members will fill organization vans with donated products, while Nourishing Our Neighborhoods recipient staff will be on site to assist with the collection process. This coordinated effort ensures that food reaches community members and families experiencing food insecurity as efficiently as possible.
The Nourishing Our Neighborhoods program, launched in September 2020, represents a strategic approach to expanding the capacity of community-based food rescue organizations. The initiative focuses on moving food from where it's available to where it's needed most through organizations that participate in Whole Foods Market's Grocery Rescue Program. These partners pick up food from stores weekly and redistribute it to feed neighbors fresh, high-quality food quickly. This large-scale donation initiative demonstrates how corporate food retailers can play a crucial role in addressing food insecurity while reducing food waste. The program's expansion to include electric vehicle infrastructure represents a forward-thinking approach to sustainable food distribution. Previous recipients like the South Shore Food Bank, which received a Nourishing Our Neighborhoods van in 2022, have demonstrated the program's effectiveness in strengthening local food distribution networks and improving access to nutritious food for communities in need.
