Zarzuela Fest Celebrates Hispanic Lyric Music in Boston
Boston Opera & Zarzuela presents a family-friendly classical Spanish lyric concert featuring international artists, highlighting the richness of Zarzuela music and supporting cultural preservation and artistic development.

International artists will showcase the vibrant world of Zarzuela, a Hispanic musical form akin to operetta, in an upcoming concert that promises to illuminate Spanish lyric traditions. The performance, supported by local arts councils, will feature renowned performers Heming Cao, Alesandra Collins, Mónica López, Lucia Panizza, and Lina Sarmiento, accompanied by Dr. Libor Dudas on piano.
The concert represents more than a musical event; it is a cultural mission to preserve and share Hispanic musical heritage. Boston Opera & Zarzuela, a nonprofit performing arts organization, aims to enrich the community's cultural landscape through performances that educate audiences about the historical and artistic context of lyric music.
By presenting well-known Zarzuela romanzas and ensembles, the organization seeks to engage audiences of all ages, providing insight into a rich musical tradition that is less familiar to mainstream American audiences. The performance also serves as a platform for diverse artists to develop and showcase their talents, reflecting the organization's commitment to artistic inclusivity.
Collaborating with the Longy School of Music of Bard College and supported by grants from the Boston Cultural Council and Cambridge Arts, the concert demonstrates a broader commitment to supporting and expanding cultural arts programming in the region.
