Dr. Nupur Ghoshal Receives Alois Alzheimer Award for Groundbreaking Dementia Research

Dr. Nupur Ghoshal has been recognized with the Alois Alzheimer Award for her substantial contributions to the field of neurological research, specifically in understanding Alzheimer's disease and related memory disorders. Her extensive work focuses on progranulin and tau proteins in frontotemporal dementia, offering critical insights into neurodegenerative mechanisms.

With over two decades of medical experience, Dr. Ghoshal's academic journey began at Iowa State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Genetics. She subsequently completed her Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology and medical degree at Northwestern University, followed by specialized training in geriatric neurology at Washington University School of Medicine.

Throughout her career, Dr. Ghoshal has been recognized multiple times for her exceptional work, including being named a Top Doctor from 2019 to 2025 and receiving the Neurology Clerkship Student Teaching Award. Her research presentations at prominent conferences like the American Academy of Neurology and Alzheimer Association International Conference have significantly advanced understanding of neurodegenerative disorders.

Currently a Professor of Neurology and Psychiatry at Washington University School of Medicine, Dr. Ghoshal's research could potentially transform approaches to diagnosing, understanding, and potentially treating complex neurological conditions. Her work on tau and progranulin proteins provides crucial insights into the mechanisms underlying frontotemporal dementia and Alzheimer's disease.

Beyond her academic achievements, Dr. Ghoshal is actively involved in medical associations and charitable contributions, serving as President of the Medical Alumni Board at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and supporting the Alzheimer Association.
