Gilat Introduces AI-Powered Network Management System for Satellite Communications

Gilat Satellite Networks Ltd. announced the AI transformation of its Network Management System, integrating Model Context Protocol to create what the company describes as the industry's first AI-driven network management solution. The new NMS-MCP acts as a gateway between the network management system and AI agents, supporting authentication, licensing, and secure communication while ensuring compliance and operational integrity.

The system enables AI models including GPT Series 4, 5 and 5 mini, as well as o3, o4, o4 mini and Claude Sonnet 4 to interface with the Total-NMS. This integration allows for advanced automation capabilities that could transform how satellite networks are managed and optimized. The AI-driven Network Operations Center agent can continuously monitor system health, detect anomalies, and take proactive measures such as automatically triggering corrective actions when performance degradation or resource bottlenecks occur.

For Software-Defined Satellite environments, the AI agent can dynamically adjust network configurations based on business priorities, traffic patterns, and service-level agreements, ensuring optimal resource utilization and improved Quality of Service for end-users. Aharon Mullokandov, Chief R&D Officer at Gilat, stated that AI serves as a critical business multiplier for customers, enabling more rapid innovation and simpler network management. The company views this development as demonstrating leadership in deep SATCOM technology and addressing customer business needs.

Gilat, which develops satellite-based broadband communications solutions, offers this technology through its comprehensive portfolio that includes cloud-based platforms, modems, satellite terminals, and advanced antennas. The company's products support multiple applications including government and defense, in-flight connectivity, mobility, broadband access, and cellular backhaul.
