Girl Scouts from Davie, Cooper City, and Southwest Ranches Earn Prestigious Gold Award for Community Impact

The Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida have recognized five remarkable young women from Davie, Cooper City, and Southwest Ranches with the Gold Award, the highest honor a Girl Scout can achieve. These awards celebrate their dedication to creating sustainable solutions for pressing community issues, ranging from STEM education to environmental conservation.

Claire-Anya Likhachyov of Davie founded the STEM MENTORS CLUB, addressing the gender gap in STEM fields by connecting younger students with high school mentors. Her initiative includes free math tutoring and a virtual career symposium, aiming to inspire confidence and interest in STEM among girls.

Mia Medrano, also from Davie, launched MangroLife, a YouTube channel dedicated to educating the public on the importance of mangroves to Florida's ecosystem. Her project highlights the threats mangroves face and promotes environmental stewardship through engaging content.

Ellen Huang of Cooper City tackled food waste with her Eco Crafts Campaign, offering workshops and online resources to teach sustainable habits. Her efforts aim to reduce the environmental impact of food waste through education and practical DIY solutions.

Lauren Rinella, another Cooper City resident, focused on women's health with her project BeYOUtifully Aware. She organized workshops on cancer prevention and early detection, significantly increasing participants' knowledge and confidence in health advocacy.

Kylin Reynolds of Southwest Ranches promoted physical activity among youth through her children's book and audiobook, Let's Get Physical!, encouraging kids to embrace movement for better health and well-being.

These projects not only address critical issues but also demonstrate the power of youth leadership in driving positive change. The Gold Award recognizes these young women as role models and changemakers in their communities.
