Innovative Behavioral Health Research Project Launches in Ohio
A collaborative research project between Northwoods, Concord Counseling, and The Ohio State University aims to explore the benefits of Case Aide Services in behavioral health, potentially reducing staff burnout and improving service delivery.

A new research project in Ohio is set to explore the impact of technology-enabled case aide support in the behavioral health sector. This initiative, a collaboration between Northwoods, Concord Counseling Services, and The Ohio State University, is funded by a SOAR Network Innovation Grant from the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (OhioMHAS). The project will investigate how these services can alleviate staff burnout, enhance job satisfaction, and streamline service delivery in behavioral health settings.
Case Aide Services, developed by Northwoods, have already shown significant benefits in child welfare, including improved caseworker efficiency and higher retention rates. The current project seeks to replicate these successes in behavioral health agencies by leveraging AI-driven operational efficiencies and AWS technologies. Linda Jakes, Executive Director at Concord Counseling Services, highlights the potential of this project to provide new tools for the workforce, thereby improving client services and reducing staff burnout.
The evaluation of this project will be led by Tom Gregoire, Associate Professor at The Ohio State University College of Social Work. His research will focus on measuring organizational performance, staff satisfaction, turnover rates, and financial impacts before and after the implementation of Case Aide Services. Richie Diers, Chief Advisor at Northwoods, emphasizes the transformative potential of technology in redefining work processes within behavioral health agencies.
This initiative is part of OhioMHAS's broader vision to foster innovation in behavioral health through technology-enabled, people-centered solutions. The SOAR Network Innovation Grants, which fund this project, aim to support advancements in mental health and addiction recovery services. This research could set a precedent for the integration of technology in behavioral health, offering a model for improving efficiency and care quality nationwide.
