Innovotech Secures $234,000 in NRC IRAP Funding for Advanced Antimicrobial Testing Services
Innovotech Inc. receives up to $234,000 CAD from NRC IRAP to develop antimicrobial testing services for medical devices, addressing evolving regulatory standards and rising client demand.

Innovotech Inc., a life sciences services and technology company specializing in antimicrobial and biofilm testing, announced today that its subsidiary, Innovotech Labs Corporation, has secured advisory services and research and development funding of up to $234,000 CAD from the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP). The funding will support the development of new antimicrobial testing services for medical devices such as catheters, implants, and wound dressings.
The initiative aligns with changes in international regulatory standards and medical device manufacturers' needs in areas including proliferation, biofilm formation, and translocation of microorganisms. The work builds on foundational development started last year and advances it into more robust, fit-for-purpose testing. As customer programs expand, manufacturers are requesting more advanced testing that better reflects real-world use and provides clearer decision-making data. Strengthening these capabilities will expand Innovotech's service offerings, support regulatory readiness, and help customers demonstrate device safety and performance more effectively.
Craig Milne, CEO of Innovotech, emphasized the significance of the NRC IRAP support. “This NRC IRAP support will help us to deepen our technical bench, problem solve for our customers and deliver solutions that reduce infections and complications for better health outcomes,” he said. “It also positions us to meet rising client demand with higher-complexity testing and stronger technical support as standards and expectations continue to evolve.”
The funding comes at a critical time when medical device manufacturers face increasingly stringent regulatory requirements from bodies such as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and Health Canada. Innovotech's enhanced testing services aim to provide decision-enabling data that aligns with these expectations, potentially accelerating product approvals and improving patient safety. The company is a recognized leader in biofilm science and antimicrobial testing, operating through ISO-certified and GMP-accredited laboratories.
Innovotech's proprietary MBEC Assay® platform, known for high-throughput antimicrobial and antibiotic testing, is widely used in the industry. The new funding will help expand the company's technical capabilities and service portfolio, addressing a growing market need for advanced testing that mimics real-world conditions. This development is expected to strengthen Innovotech's position in the regulated healthcare market and support its clients in navigating complex regulatory landscapes.
The company's focus on reducing infections and complications aligns with broader healthcare goals to improve patient outcomes. By developing more sophisticated testing methods, Innovotech aims to provide manufacturers with clearer data to ensure device safety and efficacy, ultimately benefiting patients worldwide.
