Pampa Metals Discovers New Copper-Gold Porphyry System in Argentina's San Juan Province

Mining exploration company Pampa Metals has reported a promising new copper-gold porphyry discovery at its Piuquenes East project in Argentina's San Juan province. The first drill hole, PIU-06, intersected a substantial mineralized interval of 98 meters grading 0.49% copper and 0.16 grams per tonne of gold.

The discovery is strategically located adjacent to Aldebaran Resources' Altar porphyry system, in a region known for significant copper deposits. The newly identified system demonstrates characteristics similar to other major porphyry districts, including multiple mineralization phases and complex geological structures.

Geological analysis reveals a multi-phase porphyry breccia system with distinct alteration stages, including high-temperature potassic alteration overprinted by moderate-temperature chlorite-sericite and phyllic alterations. This complex geological signature suggests potential for further mineralization.

What makes this discovery particularly exciting is that the Piuquenes East system remains entirely unexplored in its northern, western, and eastern extensions. The initial drilling results indicate the potential for a significant copper-gold resource that is still in its earliest exploration stages.

The discovery validates Pampa Metals' exploration strategy in the San Juan province, an area with a proven track record of large-scale porphyry copper deposits. Other major projects in the region, such as El Pachón and Los Azules, underscore the geological potential of this mineral-rich belt.

With ongoing surface mapping and data integration, Pampa Metals is positioned to further define the extent and potential of this promising new porphyry system. The company's systematic approach to exploration could potentially unveil a substantial copper-gold resource in the coming years.
