ProtoSpace Mfg Marks Decade of Support for Mars Rover Innovation Challenge
ProtoSpace Mfg continues its commitment to aerospace innovation by sponsoring the 2025 University Rover Challenge, providing critical manufacturing support to student teams developing advanced Mars rover prototypes. The company's decade-long involvement highlights its dedication to nurturing emerging engineering talent.

ProtoSpace Mfg is celebrating its 10th consecutive year of sponsoring the University Rover Challenge (URC), a prestigious international competition that challenges university students to design and build Mars rover prototypes. The 2025 event, taking place May 29-31 at the Mars Desert Research Station in Hanksville, Utah, will feature 38 teams from 10 countries competing in rigorous space exploration-inspired missions.
As part of its sponsorship, ProtoSpace is offering substantial manufacturing support to participating teams, including a $2,000 USD credit toward custom component fabrication and a 50% discount on additional manufactured parts. This support provides students with crucial real-world manufacturing experience while accelerating rover development.
The URC challenges students to design rovers capable of performing four critical mission tasks: Science Cache, Equipment Servicing, Extreme Terrain Traversal, and Autonomous Navigation. Each challenge simulates the complex conditions of extraterrestrial exploration, pushing students to develop innovative technological solutions.
Dr. Doug Milburn, Chairman and Co-Founder of the Protocase Companies, emphasized the company's long-standing commitment to innovation, noting the remarkable creativity and talent demonstrated by student participants over the past decade. The competition has proven to be a critical pathway for emerging engineers, with many past participants advancing to careers in top aerospace companies and research institutions.
ProtoSpace Mfg will have a team onsite during the competition, including representatives from marketing, engineering, design services, and administrative roles, to provide support and celebrate the students' achievements.
This sustained investment in the University Rover Challenge underscores ProtoSpace Mfg's commitment to advancing technological innovation and supporting the next generation of engineering talent in the aerospace and robotics sectors.
