Reservoir and Tanimura & Antle Partner to Foster AgTech Innovation in Salinas Valley

The Reservoir, in partnership with Tanimura & Antle, has secured a 40-acre farmland lease in Salinas, California, to establish Reservoir Farms, a nonprofit on-farm startup incubator. This initiative is set to become a world-class hub for scalable, farmer-driven technology solutions, located in one of the nation's most productive specialty crop areas. The collaboration aims to foster innovation at the intersection of agriculture and technology, providing a real-world proving ground for next-generation agtech solutions.

Reservoir Farms will serve as a launchpad for agtech startups, offering dedicated test plots for crops like strawberries, leafy greens, and vegetables. The initiative is designed to accelerate the development and deployment of technologies that address pressing challenges in the food system, including labor shortages, input costs, and crop yields. With plans to support over 50 new companies within five years and create more than 500 jobs, Reservoir Farms is poised to significantly impact the local economy and the broader agtech industry.

The partnership underscores the importance of connecting agtech innovation directly with farmland to ensure the rapid development of practical solutions. By leveraging the expertise of Tanimura & Antle and the strategic location of the Salinas Valley, Reservoir Farms aims to promote sustainability, improve farmer economics, and enhance environmental stewardship across the region. The groundbreaking for Reservoir Farms is scheduled for late summer 2025, marking a significant step forward in agricultural innovation and rural economic development.
