Utah's Life Sciences Showcase at State Capitol Highlights $22B Industry Growth
Utah's burgeoning life sciences sector, representing $22 billion in GDP and employing 180,000 residents, will demonstrate its economic impact and healthcare innovations to state legislators at the annual Life Sciences Day on the Hill event.

Over 25 leading healthcare and biotechnology companies will gather at the Utah State Capitol on January 30 to showcase the state's rapidly expanding life sciences industry during the 2025 Life Sciences Day on the Hill. The event, organized by BioUtah in partnership with the Utah Life Sciences Innovation Caucus and the Governor's Office of Economic Opportunity, aims to demonstrate the sector's significant economic and healthcare contributions to state legislators.
The life sciences industry has emerged as a crucial economic driver in Utah, generating $22 billion in GDP and supporting 180,000 jobs across more than 1,600 companies. Major players including Merit Medical Systems, Edwards Lifesciences, and Intermountain Health will display their innovations in medical devices, diagnostics, biotechnology, and pharmaceuticals during the three-hour exhibition in the capitol rotunda.
According to Kelvyn Cullimore, president and CEO of BioUtah, the event serves as a vital platform for direct dialogue between industry innovators and state policymakers. 'As one of the fastest-growing healthcare innovation hubs in the nation, legislators will learn about an array of new technologies that are changing patients' lives,' said Cullimore.
The strong showing of established companies alongside emerging startups reflects Utah's growing prominence as a healthcare innovation center. The exhibition demonstrates the state's potential to attract further investment and talent in the life sciences sector, while highlighting the need for continued legislative support to maintain this growth trajectory.
